A cozy Holiday at home with Walmart

Special Holiday moments.

From guests and family visiting to all the yummy treats and festive traditions.

We’ve teamed up with Walmart today to share a Christmas morning family tradition and a little touch of how we make our guests feel comfortable.

Since we were little, our mom made the best coffee cake on Christmas morning. It was really the only time she made it during the year – probably why it tasted so good and felt special. I still make it for my family on Christmas morning. With the help of Walmart this year, I can make the presentation feel grand.

Be sure to scroll to the end of the post for the coffee cake recipe!

I knew this Acacia wood tray would be a simple but chic way to display the coffee cake. Moisture resistant, a functional large size and rounded edges. A touch of gold is always a favorite too! Perfect for serving food or simply a beautiful display.

Typically we think of a charcuterie board for cheeses but why not use it for a fruit display! I love how it turned out. This board comes with 4 little utensils perfect for any spread you create.

Now that the Holiday shopping is done, it’s time to get ready for Holiday guests. We have a couple guests coming this year. My daughter has a friend from college coming to visit for a few days and then my in-laws are coming over Christmas.

Whether it’s a new guest to our home or guests, like our in-laws, who have been to our house many many times, I still like their room/bathroom to feel inviting and cozy. Besides the cozy decor, I love to have a personalized goodie basket ready for my guests. It’s full of things they might want or need while staying with us!

I added a little bit of Holiday to the room with these adorable sweater reindeer. They come in a set of 2 and also come in a fun black combo here and a red polka dot here.

The easiest way to warm up a space? Add a great smelling candle!! I love the ceramic jar of this one. I chose the scent Black Sesame because it’s a warm, musky scent which I love, but it also comes in these scents too. Each scent comes in a different colored jar.

What to put in your guest room/bathroom basket:

  • magazine or a local magazine/newspaper
  • bottled water
  • snacks and treats – if there is something special made in your hometown, add that in
  • toiletries that are easily forgotten – toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, shampoo, etc.
  • a little note with the wifi password

Do you have a favorite Holiday tradition or a special way to make guests welcome? We’d love to hear!

Prize Coffee Cake

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 c sugar
  • 1/4 c soft shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c milk
  • 1 1/2 c flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Topping:
  • 1 c brown sugar
  • 4 T flour
  • 4 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 T melted butter
  • 1/2 c nuts, optional

Mix together sugar, shortening, and egg. Stir in milk. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Pour part of the batter in a greased 8×8″ pan. Add on some of the cinnamon topping. Top with the rest of the batter and more of the cinnamon topping. (I don’t usually use all of the topping that was made – it would be overwhelming. But we do like a good amount!) Bake at 350 degrees for about 25-35 minutes or until set in the middle.

Enjoy!
