Chocolate Cake
Our family favorite chocolate cake that starts with a box cake mix.

- Vegetable oil spray to mist the pan
- Flour for dusting the pan
- 1 package devil's food cake mix
- 1 package chocolate instant pudding mix
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup warm water
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate chips
Chocolate Icing
- 1 cup sugar
- 5 tbsp butter
- ⅓ cup milk
- 3 oz. Unsweetened Baker's chocolate
- 3 oz. Sweetened Baker's chocolate
Preheat oven to 350*
Lightly spray the cake pan with vegetable oil spray and then dust with flour. Shake out excess flour and set the pan aside.
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, sour cream, warm water, and oil. Blend with electric mixer until combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Bake the cake until is springs back when lightly pressed with your finger and when it starts to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 45-50 minutes.
Allow to cool slightly in the pan. Then invert onto serving platter. Cool completely before icing.
Chocolate Icing
Add butter, milk and sugar to medium saucepan.
Over medium heat, heat until butter is melted. Once it comes to a boil, stir constantly for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and add chocolate squares. Stir until chocolate squares are melted.
Spoon over cooled cake. Icing sets up as it cools.
